Reply from Senator Boozman of Arkansas regarding medical marijuana
"---DEAR MR. PRIME,
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for medical marijuana. It is good to hear from you.
Many people believe that the widespread use of marijuana to relieve suffering would be medically advisable. While I understand your support for legalization of medical marijuana, I respectfully disagree. As a member of the medical community, I am aware that many leading healthcare organizations, such as the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Cancer Society (ACS), have serious concerns about the medicinal use of marijuana. Many health experts argue that people who smoke marijuana are exposing themselves to a rather crude and potentially harmful drug delivery system. The smoke from a burning marijuana cigarette contains a variety of toxic chemicals that could be harmful, especially to users whose medical condition might be compromised further by choosing to smoke the drug for self-treatment.
I support research into the safety and effectiveness of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is believed to be the primary chemical component responsible for marijuana's psychopharmacological effects. The federal government has appropriately provided grants for such studies. As a result of such research, dronabinol, the synthetic form of THC, has been available as an oral prescription drug since 1986 under its brand name "Marinol." I respect your opinion, and I really appreciate the time you took to contact me. Please be assured I will keep your views in mind if legislation affecting this issue comes to the floor of the U.S. Senate for a vote in the 113th Congress.
Again, thank you for contacting me on this very important issue. Please be sure to visit our website at www.boozman.senate.gov . I look forward to your continued correspondence.
Sincerely,
John Boozman
U.S. Senator---"

My reply to his reply
Mr. Boozman,
I do not just support medical marijuana, I desire legalization and decriminalization of the medicinal plant. Big Pharma is just one of the reasons that the medicine of marijuana has been kept illegal for far longer than any reasonable people should have ever allowed. Other reasons and insustries are also responsible for keeping it illegal- timber, cotton, prison, alcohol...
Surely, Mr. Boozman, you know these things to be true. There are more ways to ingest it than by smoking a joint. There is vapor, water bong, THC in butter, brownies, etc. I was hoping that you might take this important issue more seriously than it appears you do.
It will be legalized and decriminalized soon, so why don't you get on the side of history that recognizes its medicinal benefits as well as its environmental benefit through the use of hemp.
Let's have a serious conversation, not one that is beholden to any of the aforementioned industries.
Sincerely,
Mark Richard Prime
