Why do they stay there, between war and peace? Sky’s tapestry doles out guns, bombs and rocks while flesh and bone swim away from the ache yet live on as the food for the murder of peace.
Why do we hide from the truth as if it were an ogre while death makes a home inside their living and war dispatches a raven to their door, smirking with the teeth of empire?
Why do we wait, stooped for another wink? The sky’s drapery has tossed down ample clues, peace is breathing in harmony with war. (Road-maps are useless to blind leaders.)
Why do they hold there, hunched in the gloom? Hatred’s bird cackling with bereavement needs end. Are we not rightly dishonored when we fill its trough with blood?

This is a beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteAny discussion of Israel/Palestine has been conspicuous by its absence in this year's presidential campaign.
Why? I wonder. Perhaps that many people in high places have a vested interest that this conflict continue?
For there to be peace in the entire middle-east, there has to be a resolution of the Israel/Palestine conflict. It is essential.
And this depends heavily on American leadership, which is why a discussion of this very important topic should be foremost in the current presidential campaign.
as always, you words and pictures say so much! thanks for posting this
ReplyDeletethe issue is complex because it isn't just a palestinian/israeli conflict. it's an american monied jewish establishment meshed with the corporate elite in america pulling the strings over there along with the corrupt israeli government. if there was to be any serious discourse, the candidates would have to acknowledge how much aipac money they accepted- and they won't because it's millions. war is profit in the 21st century.
ReplyDeletebeautiful and sad at the same time pm.
It brings tears to my eyes knowing that I am part of Winston's master race.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredibly powerful video, painting, & poem.
ReplyDeleteI wish the USA was not so involved, myself, as the powers that be use Middle East politics to advance their own political agenda to the detriment of the citizens of those countries.
How easy it seems to stomp on people when you are twice removed...thank you for always bringing it home.
I just wanted to say long time no see and thanks for your comment. Will come back later when I have time to do your great site justice.
ReplyDeleteChristopher,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words and I do agree the conversation or news of the conflict has been very lacking.
az,
ReplyDeleteAnd as always your words are kind and I am humbled by them.
Thank you.
betmo,
ReplyDeleteYes. It is the US and the Israeli and Palestinian conflict or as I like to call it, the USraeli and Palestian conflict.
Thank you, my friend.
Case,
ReplyDeleteThe Winston race, one would think, would have fallen on its bloody knees and succumbed to the truth years ago.
But, alas, it is alive and well.
concerned,
ReplyDeleteYou are most welcome and it is to me as well dumbfounding at how easily we allow such atrocities and get away with it smelling like roses... The flowers are surely rotted by now... We need some new sniffers methinks...
euroyank,
ReplyDeleteIt was good visiting your most informative site my friend. I too will return to your gift to the world soon as well.
Peace.
