Playing Dress Up on Halloween


Halloween!

O! Dress your ghouls in costumes that they might be seen,
dress yourself up and let laughter come that it might be felt!

O! Dress up your haunts in dregs of another thought and laugh,
dress up your intentions and take them on the sweet walk!

O! Dress up your imaginations for there is much that still needs done,
dress up your dreams to match those of now and you've already won...

Was there a costume contest? Damn! Did I miss it?

(Welcome! The party was by invitation only, yours must have gotten lost in the shuffle or in the mail.)

Is it over?

(It's just getting started! Why the long face?)

It's my costume.

(Oh.)

I have been witness to the four pillars and see no reason to carry death there. Doesn’t the world know that life moves for more than just the sons of Abraham? O! I see the stunned throats floating by in the dusk to their stiff-limbed sleep as metal rains down over the Jordan’s western prophet, children dying there.
