“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” Matthew 10:29-31 (NIV)
I believe in no way this verse indicates that we are more important than the bird, as a matter of fact it tells me we only imagine we are. It tells me, that if we were indeed created in the "image" (spirit) of God, then we are not too Godlike in our actions across the globe as a collective "humanity". It tells me that we need treat the birds as if they themselves are sacred to (a part of) God, not unlike all animals, all Life, so to say that we are somehow superior to the bird is to, I believe, miss the point. Humbleness is much of what we're missing on our journey toward the truth.
The above verse of Matthew is a metaphor, one that should tell us that we are not better than, but equal to. Two birds in hand, etc. Human slavery can slide right on into the extended metaphor. Two children killed by a bomb are worth the same as two that go untouched. See? The bird is a metaphor for our spirits if you want to stay with the metaphorical line of thinking (verse). Why are we not flying instead of consuming our anointed selves into oblivion?
I believe that the word of God is not a word at all, but an evolution of Love, Peace, and Forgiveness. Let us begin...

What would be the focus of "the book" since man "wrote" it and birds did not (needn't have since it is in their song)?
It's shortsighted, in my opinion, to imagine that the correlation between man and words is somehow a lesson in truth learned instead of a lesson gone unrecognized for what it truly is, a mess.
If we would but listen to the birdsong, we might actually understand that there is more to our story than we have yet to scribe into any one book.
