Those with special needs we must cherish, not pity. Our pity doesn't serve them or the greater good, it only manages to bring us to envision ourselves as different instead of equals. Difference is learned. It's the first of a series of lies we tell the children.
It will do little good to point out the series until we suspend our disbelief...
